Wedding Photos by Ezlan Powers Photography aren't they STUNNING?
I met Julia online through a wedding vendor app that I use called Zola, one of the things that stood out to me about her was how kind she was. I always chat with my brides over the phone before booking them, it's like a little interview for both of us. I need to make sure that I can accomplish what you need, just as much as you do. I never take on a client that I'm not 100% sure I can service to the best of my ability. I also never want to steer anyone down the wrong path, this is your wedding day and potentially one of the biggest days of your life, I need to be sure just as much as you do, that I'm the one for you.
I had the pleasure of meeting Julia's fiancé Tom at the preview appointment, and it was lovely. We all had a great time getting to know each other, while Julia and I planned her wedding day look!
PRO TIP: We also decided to do her trial preview on a day where she had her engagement/save the date photos done. It was a great way to test her look while also getting to meet each other.

They have to be one of the CUTEST couples around, and the love they share is a rare one. I was honored to be able to be with them both for the afternoon. Tom made himself comfy at the studio while Julia and I went to work, and he was SOOOO patient waiting just hanging out with us, I felt no pressure too which is awesome for me as an artist.
Fast forward 5 months later to October 5th 2024! Its wedding day, and we opted to get ready at a hotel close by the venue, I met Julia at The Carlton of Oak Park, and it was a stunning location for us to spend the morning together. There was an easy parking area for me to access the venue, in a safe neighborhood, what more could you ask for!? We even had some great local coffee shops nearby that we were able to walk to in between hair and makeup to get a little energy boost!
Julia opted for a soft glam look for the big day, with warmer tones to accentuate her beautiful blue eyes. We also had some changes from the preview appointment that we communicated together via email throughout the months in-between her trial appointment and the big day.
PRO TIP: make sure that you communicate everything back to your artist, its really important that we know everything that didn't work for you just as much as we love to hear what did work. The purpose of the preview appointment is to try a look that we love, but there is so much more than goes into it. Here's a list of things that you should be watching for!
  • How did the makeup hold up? How long did you wear it the day of your trial?
  • Did anything wear weird? For example: were there areas of the face that look like they wore off? Were there areas with excessive creasing?
  • Lets talk shine! How long did you wear the makeup before noticing shine on the face, and where did we notice the shine? Was it just in the chin forehead or nose area?
  • How did your curls hold up if you opted for a curly do? Did you opt for the Hollywood waves style, and if so, did that breakup anywhere? Did the style hold its form as well?
  • Did you feel comfortable in the look? Was there anything that didn't feel good or start to lift during your test run?

Often times, these things will result in an artist changing up some products for the big day depending on how you answer some of these questions. Maybe we needed to change the lashes or the style of them? These are all things you should feel comfortable troubleshooting with your artist. They are just as invested in your big day as you are, utilize them for problem solving!

Julia and Tom picked the amazing Oak Park Conservatory for their venue which was super enchanting, creating some beautiful moments for the photographer to capture. The photos seem like a dream to me, but I will say I dont know how easy this venue was to work with due to time constraints etc, since they are open to the public during the day...

Now the fun part! Julia wanted a lightweight lip color that accentuated her natural lips without feeling big, bulky, and goopy. We opted for a stain/gloss hybrid product that I made for her by hand. Here is the color story behind that, and how we created the perfect color and consistency for her!

Julia, it was a pleasure to be with you for such a big day. I wish you and Tom a lifetime of happiness and joy. I adore you and your spirit, I hope we stay in touch and I cant wait to see your life grow with new memories! Always sending all my love, thank you for being the coolest gal in town!
xoxo
