Its time to empower you with some skincare knowledge buckle up this one is about Hyaluronic Acid AKA: HA and you'll want to grab a snack this is a long one!
First lets talk about HA and what is it exactly? I would say this is the close to collagen in the plumping family. A lot of times they will use Hyaluronic Acid in filler and other joint supplements due to its fatty properties. Its a jelly type substance that absorbs 3 times its weight in water, so its considered a Humectant in the skincare family. Which means, its super hydrating and used to moisturize the skin barrier. Its also something that's already present in the body, but as we age it decreases over time.
Functions
Hydration:
HA acts as a humectant, attracting and retaining water molecules in the skin, joints, and eyes
Lubrication:
HA provides lubrication in the joints, reducing friction and protecting cartilage
Wound healing:
HA promotes cell proliferation and migration, aiding in wound healing
Skin elasticity:
HA helps maintain skin elasticity and firmness by filling in the spaces between collagen and elastin fibers
Supplements:
You can also use this as a supplement to aide in bone health, joint lubrication, and overall hydration!
There are different sources on where you can get HA, some can find it in animal sources, bacterial fermentation, and also in a synthetic form. I don't think there's been enough studies here to show what the best sources are, but I can tell you that a Low Molecular weight HA is meant to sink deeper into the skins layers and penetrate beneath the skins surface.
HA can help with fine lines, wrinkles, and moisture retention so in my eyes this has to be TOP on your list when it comes to what's in your serums! Aside from sunscreen, I think HA could be next in line in priority as we age. I also think its something that is gentle enough that we could start using it at a young age without doing any damage to our skin's barrier and it will not promote breakouts in the younger years like some moisturizers can.
Best time to use Hyaluronic Acid?
I would say evening is always the best time for skincare, it helps aid the skin while its in repair mode, its like being able to drink water when you workout. Giving your skin what it needs while its doing the work is important. I think the morning routine should be made up of a good SPF and nighttime should be where you're doing more of your work! I also think that using HA in the winter to help your skin when it could be at its driest time would also be beneficial. If you're looking for a good nighttime treatment try out our HA serum, its made with a big boost of HA, distilled water, copper peptides, peppermint extract and calming eucalyptus and aloe for a soothing boost of hydration!
